A Charming And Extremely Rare Late 18th Century
George III Period Mahogany Miniature Sideboard
Having Galleried Top Over Three Drawers And
Attractive Inlaid Decoration Raised On
Elegant Square Tapered Legs

(This is a very unusual piece of 18th Century Miniature
Furniture in terms of its shape and form. We have not
come across a huge amount of Miniature Sideboards
in all of our years specialising in miniature furniture,
especially ones which are this charming and this
elegant. We would expect that this was made as
a one of piece as a scale model of the full size
version which had already been produced.
Much discussion is had regarding whether items of
miniature furniture were made as apprentice pieces, which is
when a craftsmen who is looking for a job at a workshop
would create something to showcase their talents, or whether
they were made as travelling salesman's sample pieces, which
is when a few articles were made as scale models in advance
of a road trip on which the salesman would travel the country
showing prospective clients the kind of items that could be
produced back at the workshop and take orders from.)
