A very good quality 18th century George III period Mahogany Linen Press with dentil cornice and superbly figured pair of oval panelled doors.
With satinwood crossbanded decoration enclosing hanging rail over two short and two long drawers, with original brass handles raised on original shaped bracket feet.
Linen presses became particularly popular throughout the 18th century onwards, for as the name suggests, storage of the household linen.
They normally come with fitted sliding trays in the interior of the top section, designed to allow easy access to the folded linen.
However these have often now been removed and replaced with a hanging rail to allow storage of clothes on hangers, which is more in keeping with modern day living.
This particular linen press is a great size, constructed from superb quality, rich and well figured mahogany and boasts elegant oval panels to its doors.
It retains its original brass handles and its original bracket feet. What more could one ask of a truly functional piece of furniture?
