Rare and provincial Chester GEORGE III Silver 'Sparrow Beak’ Cream Jug of good gauge.
Maker: Joseph Walley of Liverpool. Chester 1786.
The jug has a baluster form with a plain spout and a leaf capped scroll handle and stands on a circular foot.
The full set of hallmarks and maker's mark are extremely well stamped on the base of the jug.
Joseph Walley worked closely with Robert Jones who was a one time assistant to Benjamin Brackner (d. 1734). Both men were from the same obscure village called Tatton. Walley married Jones's widow, Maria in 1760 and died in 1801.
This is a provincial piece with all the charm of a Chester hallmark. Chester silver is very much sought after and collected.
