BADA 2020This stunning enamel plaque is by Eugen Mayer created whilst an assistant at the technical school of the Museum for Decorative Arts in Vienna, dated 1922 (Kunstgewerbeschule des Osterreichischen Museums fur Kunst und Industrie). Mayer worked as an assistant at the technical school under Josef Hoffmann from 1922-3. From 1923 he was technical director, and ultimately professor, at the workshop for decorative metalworks in Vienna. He is best known for his strikingly modern figural metalwork sculptures.
The plaque is set in a deep copper or bronze frame. The wood backing carries his classic EM monogramme and is dated 1922.
