A very fine example of "ADMIRAL KEPPEL FOR EVER" London Delftware pottery commemorative plate in Blue and white. Admiral Augustus Keppel, was an officer of the Royal Navy during the Seven Years' War and the War of American Independence. At the Battle of Quiberon Bay in November 1759 he commanded the 74 gun ship "Torbay" and sank the French ship "Thesee". During the final years of the latter conflict he served as First Lord of the Admiralty. He was friend of the famous English artist Joshua Reynolds who painted several portraits of him.
