Dutch Delft Blue and White Chinoiserie Garniture of Vases.

Circa 1765.

The underglaze blue octagonal-shaped vases have alternating panels, one with a Chinese male figure gardening by a fence with a large bird perched above.  The other panel with a figure in a small boat coming ashore by a pavilion while another figure crosses a bridge.  The panels separated by a raised edge topped by a large leaf.  The foot decorated with stylized leaves.  The cover similarly painted.  The finial with a raised white foo dog or lion.

There have been some frits repaired to the edges of the covers.  On the two trumpet vases there are chips on the foot and one on the rim; there is also a short hairline. (see photos)

Dimensions: Covered Vases: 15 3/4 inches high x 7 inches wide; Trumpet Vases: 10 1/2 inches high x 5 1/2 inches wide.

Provenance: Green paper label Collectie Jacob Gieling, # 1912. Jacob Gieling (1919-1976). Gieling came from a well-to-do Utrecht antiquarian family. Jacob also became a great figure in his field. Among other things, he supplied part of the furniture for Drakenstein Castle, to Queen Beatrix.
