A rare and fine Coalport porcelain plate, c. 1895. Made to commemorate the legendary cricketer W.G. Grace, and his ‘Century of Centuries’. Printed in underglaze blue, with a titled portrait of W.G. Grace, within a laurel wreath, surrounded by radiating cricket bats, inscribed with details of his centuries. A continuous band of cricket balls and stumps, is contained within a moulded and gilded gilt scroll and scalloped rim.
Printed title to the reverse ‘In commemoration of Dr W.G. Grace’s Century of Centuries, 1866-1895.’
Printed Coalport factory marks.
