Adam Buck

Children with Pets

A pair of "cut-outs" ~ aquatint engravings in full original colour after the painting by Adam Buck, published in London circa 1810.

Adam Buck (1759-1833) was a draughtsman and specialist watercolour artist whose exquisite portraits have come to be synonymous with Regency England. Cut-outs such as these were popular throughout the C19th as Victorian ladies in particular collected engravings and personalised them by cutting them out or embellishing them with fabrics, feathers and metallic sequins. A pair like this would typically have adorned a ladies' bedchamber or sitting room during the Regency.
