Blythe Artist Colour Sample Plate, 20th Century Porcelain.

Blythe Factory.

An English Porcelain Blythe Artist Colour Sample Plate. The original Blythe family ran the Colour Works factory started in 1899.

The factory was alongside the railway in Cresswell in north Staffordshire and continued to employ all the workers in town until the takeover in 1963 by ceramic colors and coatings specialist Johnson Matthey.

These plates were made to market the range of coatings and colors available to the Potteries and factories in Staffordshire.

They would have been displayed in artist supply stores, carried by paint salesman and shown in pottery manufacturers catalogs.

They would not have been available for sale.
