Antique Silver George III Snuffer (wick trimmer and tray) made in 1811. The tray is made in Sheffield by John Roberts and Co and the snuffers are made by the specialist makers Wilkes and John Booth of London. Both pieces bear the original initials ‘W’ and are in good condition. A fine set and on a historical note John Booths grandson John Wilkes Booth was the man who assassinated Abraham Lincoln. Due to the collapse in the snuffer trade owing to the invention of candles who’s wicks didn’t need trimming, the Booth family emigrated to the United States.
