Antique Kashan Carpet, circa 1890-1910.
6.26 x 4.16 m.
This very large Kashan carpet has an artistic overall design. The muted, pinky-red field has a pleasant abrash (colour variation), adding great depth and richness to the monochrome drawing, framed by a wide, soft green border.
Antique Kashan carpets rank as one of the finest of all Persian carpets. The city of Kashan served as the centre of fine rug weaving during the 16th-century Safavid period and some of the best classical pieces are attributed to it, and continued its production of high-category pieces into the 19th and early 20th centuries.
This Kashan carpet is in very good practical condition for everyday use. Still retaining all its borders and fringes on all sides.
A stylish example with subtle colours, rare in this large format.
