A Very Good Quality Mid 19th Century Mahogany Wellington Chest
Of Five Drawers Plus Double Depth Secretaire Drawer Retaining
Original Turned Knobs Flanked By Pilasters With Carved Decoration
( Always a useful and practical item wellington chests were made throughout
the 19th century in varying woods, sizes and qualities. This is a mid 19th century
mahogany example and retains a good colour and condition. It also has a
secretaire writing drawer which would have originally been designed for
standing at and using for correspondence that did not require a huge amount
of time.
These days of course it adds a different perspective to any room in a house with
the tall narrow design and relatively shallow drawers, meaning that things are not
so easily lost as when buried in the bottom of a drawer in a larger chest of drawers.)
