Dutch Delft Underglaze Blue & White Chinoiserie Dragonfly Plates, 
De Klaauw Factory (The Claw Factory),
Circa 1750

The set of six Dutch Delft Chinoiserie plates depict a large dragonfly, in a Chinese garden, sitting on a rock.  All within a shaped octagonal border.  The rim in yellow and the wide border with a series of roundels depicting stylized flower heads and bugs.  The reverse with underglaze blue painted O's and X's.

The dragonfly is a symbol of good luck and prosperity in Chinese culture.

Mark: an underglaze blue claw painted mark and the number 150.

Dimensions: Diameter: 8 7/8 inches x 1 1/4 inches high (22.54cm)

Condition: Good with no cracks or restoration.  There are very, very minor frits to the rim as is typical with Delft.

De Klaauw Factory is one of the most prosperous and longest-running Delftware factories in the Netherlands. The company was founded in 1661 by Cornelis Cornelisz. van der Houve and Cornelia Schoonhoven, who converted the company into an earthenware factory 12. The factory was located on the east side of Koornmarkt, opposite De Paauw pottery
