Dutch Delft Large Underglaze Blue Chinoiserie Dish,

Circa 1900.

The large Circular Dutch Delft Chinoiserie dish, after the Chinese Transition Period Blue & White, is painted with large Chinese figures in the central well surrounded by a garden scene with rockwork and large plants and trees.  The dish has a deep well and a wide-rim flange.  The dish is after the Chinese Transition Period Blue & White.

The center has three Chinese figures in a garden by a fence, one figure with a closed fan in his left hand reaches out to receive a dish being handed to him by one of the figures as a fourth figure stands watching from the edge of the wide flaring rim.  The rest of the rim has rockwork and vegetation.

Dimensions: 15 1/2 inch diameter x 2 1/4 inches high.

The dish has no cracks or damage other than two small places where the glaze has flaked on the edge of the dish (see photos)- This has now been restored invisibly.

Reference: See Delftware: The French Connection, A Parisian Private Collection And Other Recent Acquisitions, Aronson Delftware, Page 20, #6, for a very similar design on a dish marked for Gerrit Pietesz Kam, owner of the Drie Posteleyne Astonne ( The Three Porcelain Ash-Barrels) factory.
