AN EXTREMELY RARE PAIR OF LATE 17TH CENTURY CARVED AND PIERCED OAK STAIR GATES. CIRCA 1680-1700.
THESE BEAUTIFULY CARVED STAIRGATES CAME FROM A GRAND HOUSE ON THE SHROPSHIRE/WELSH BORDERS. THEY HAVE A WONDERFUL COLOUR AND PATINATION AND ARE DEEPLY CARVED WITH HEAVY MOULDINGS, THEY DATE FORM AROUND 1680-1700.
THE TOP RAIL IS CARVED WITH TULIPS AND BERRIES, ABOVE A DEEPLY CARVED AND PIERCED PANEL WITH SCROLLING FOILAGE, A LARGE RAISED FIELDED PANEL BELOW.
