An early 19th century well turned boxwood teacher's clicker, also known as a clicket or snapper, having incised lines and an acorn finial. These interesting items were used for calling inattentive children to order in the classroom. Early examples have the trigger held by a gut cord. Later examples have a spring loaded trigger. Notice the angled thumb piece at the end. Interestingly this example has some ink stains, leaving darker patches on the pale boxwood, so proving it has been well used in the classroom.
