William Manners.

"Winter, Barnard Castle" watercolour and bodycolour.

William Manners was born in Bradford where he lived till about 1900 when he moved to Westmoreland. He painted in watercolours and oils, the countryside around the Lake District and Northern England inspiring much of his work. He exhibited paintings between about 1890 and 1920 at galleries including the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of British Artists. He was elected to the R.B.A. in 1893. "Winter, Barnard Castle" is a wonderful example of his work measuring 5"x 7". It is signed lower right with a monogram and is mounted into the original gilt swept frame giving an overall size of 14"x 16".
