Vintage Stone Statue of Amphictyonis, circa 1960.

Charming cast stone statue with fine detailing and relief of a young girl or woman dressed in classical draped chiton, her hair in chignon style secured with a ribbon, with eyes cast downwards, gracefully walking and carrying a pitcher in one arm, the other resting against her body.

Standing on the original stone plinth decorated with a stylised carved bunch of grapes on each side. The pitcher and the grapes suggest that this a representation of Amphictyonis, Greek goddess of wine and friendship between nations.

The figure could also represent Hebe, Greek goddess of youth and cup bearer for the gods of Mount Olympus serving them with drinks of immortality, but Hebe is usually always shown carrying a cup in her other hand and the reference to wine is irrelevant to Hebe. It is therefore more likely to be Amphictyonis.
