Composite Stone Busts of Brutus and Laocoön.

A pair of weathered, composite busts, after the antique, Brutus & Laocoön, raised on integral socle bases, on tall cylindrical columns, 6ft.,3” high.

Italy, circa 1900.

The suffering is beautifully conveyed through the contorted expressions of Laocoön’s face and the heroic aspect of Brutus through the valiant expression of the face.

- The statue of Laocoön and His Sons, is regarded as one of the most famous ancient sculptures since it was excavated in Rome in 1506 and placed on public display in the Vatican where it remains.
- Brutus is a marble bust sculpted by Michelangelo circa 1539–1540 in the Bargello museum in Florence. It belongs to, and may have initiated, a revival of the classical bust in sculpture.
-These busts are probably early 20th century and have a lovely weathered patina.
