Victorian Sapphire and Diamond Swallow Brooch circa 1890.
A romantic Victorian sapphire and diamond swallow brooch.
This lovely brooch has two swallows each set with a small sapphire to one wing flying towards a sapphire and diamond central heart. The swallows are realistically figured with engraved feather detailing to both sides.
The heart which has a bow detail to the top is attached to a central bar with a further sapphire to the centre.
The birds are joined to the heart by a trace chain in a typically late Victorian design. The brooch which would have been given as a lovers gift symbolises everlasting love as swallows return each year and have long been associated with love.
The brooch has a gold pin to the reverse and a safety catch to the clasp keeping the brooch secure when worn. The brooch is finely made and in wonderful condition.
Era: Victorian, 1839 - 1901.
Measurements: Brooch is 5.7 cm in width, 2cm at longest point (to base of heart).
4.6 grams in weight.
Hallmarks: Unmarked tests 15ct gold.
