Victorian Novelty Envelope Locket circa 1900.

An unusual large Victorian gold novelty locket designed as an envelope.

The locket has a hinge to one side and opens revealing two photograph compartments inside. The front of the locket opens like an envelope allowing the wearer to keep a secret message (or indeed stamps) safe and hidden from view.

The reverse of the locket is beautifully engraved with a rose and scrollwork acanthus leaf pattern and a shield to the centre with the engraved initials H.B. of the original owner.

There is a runner ring to the top allowing the locket to be worn on a ribbon or chain.

This locket design is more commonly seen in silver and it is rare to find such a great large example in gold. The locket is in fabulous condition.

Era: Victorian, 1839 - 1901.

Measurements: Locket 2.8 cm in length, 2.3cm wide.

9.3 grams in weight.

Hallmarks: Stamped 9CT to engraved side.

Registered design number engraved under envelope flap.
