An oval oil on panel painting of a skull upon a table, a lily & butterfly to either side. The reverse painted with the words 'SURGITE MORTEM' which roughly translates as ‘Stand up Death’.
In the manner of Philippe De Campaigne (1602-1674), for a comparable painting see his still-life with a skull c.1671, in the Musée de Tessé, Le Mans.
