Understated Malayer Rug, circa 1900s.
1.88 x 1.16 m
Antique Malayer rugs, originating from Northwest Persia, are well known for the unique quality of their designs, combining the bold, graphic forms of tribal and village weavings, with the craftsmanship, precision, and delicate drawing one would expect from a fine Persian workshop piece.
This beautiful example, dating to the turn of the last century, with an earthy colour palette and simple drawing. The unusual colour in the central field provides a complimentary backdrop to the monochrome overall design, framed by eight individual borders, the central band featuring a rare and charming rose-motif over an ivory ground.
In very good condition for everyday use, still retaining its order borders and fringes on all sides.
An exquisite rug, with a tribal charisma and personality, well suited to a stylish setting.
