Tupman and Baetens, London: A fine single-fusee ormolu mantel clock.

An ormolu mantel clock in the classical style which has an eight-day duration, single fusee timepiece movement signed by the clockmaker F. Baetens, London on both the backplate and inside the plates.

The white enamel dial has black Roman hour numerals and is signed by the well-known maker a retailer Tupman, 44 Gt. Russell St.

The ormolu case has a winged female figure holding a cornucopia of flowers, with a pillar mounted with various ornamentation including an anchor, an artists palette and a globe; all standing on a base with classical mounts to the front.​

James Tupman is recorded as a watch & clock maker, jeweller and retailer with his address at 44 Great Russell Street, Bloomsbury, London between 1816 and 1819; No.67 in 1820; No.31 in 1822-1842; No.31 in 1845 until 1856. He was most likely the brother of George Tupman, watchmaker of Old Bond Street, with whom he worked closely.

​The Baetens family were known makers of French style clocks and also bronze & ormolu artefacts, including clocks and are recorded as working in the Soho area of London and Leicester Square.
