Tunbridge Ware Sewing Box Alfred Talbot (att.)

The Rosewood box of rectangular form raised upon four squat stick ware bun feet extensively inlaid with bands of cube decoration representing blossoming flowers and foliage. The lid framed by a floral mosaic border with a central rare scene of St. Helena Cottage. When opened the Sewing Box reveals the red silk lining with a ruched silk inner lid bordered by geometric inlay and a central removable tray with compartments for sewing tools. The tray is filled with Tunbridge Ware reels, winders and mother of pearl handled tools. Beneath the tray is a second storage location for larger tools and other Sewing accessories. The Sewing Box dates to the mid 19th century Victorian period Circa 1850 during the reign of Queen Victoria and is firmly attributed to Alfred Talbot.

The box comes complete with a working lock and a tasselled key.
