Condition report

A good traditional twin Horse Headed Ceremonial Kasa or "Kjenge", form the Viking tradition. Dug-out, hewn and carved from a single solid block of birchwood, these vessels were used at Wedding Ceremonies and Baptisms as Loving Cups and handed along the long trestle tables in farmhouses and village halls for all guests to drink to the health of the newlyweds or new born babies. This restrained and refined example has graphic upright necks to the horse's head handles, and some geometric punchwork decoration. In excellent original condition, with no visible splits or shrinkages and no significant damage or restoration. The Horse is a significant motif and symbol in Scandinavian Folklore as it represents the virtues of strength, power against evil, loyalty, virility and nobility.
