There is a small white enamel inventory number at the back of the figure’s neck which is difficult to read but might be ‘R6D8’
William John Coffee (1774-1846) began his career as a modeller for the Derby Porcelain factory as well as other local potteries.
During his time in Derby Coffee sculpted busts of local dignitaries including Erasmus Darwin now in the Derby Museum as well as classical figures.
Coffee emigrated to America in 1816 where he achieved fame as a sculptor of people such as Thomas Jefferson and James Madison.
The plinth is probably local Ashford black marble.
