For sale is this classic two handled footed bowl by Charles Ashbee for the Guild of Handicraft. It is set with two good sized green chrysoprase stones.  Alan Crawford describes this porringer design as the most “characteristic and successful” application of Ashbee’s graceful use of wirework in silver.  This example is slightly smaller than others I have had.It is often mistakenly thought these bowls had lids but in fact, as can be seen from a contemporary image at the time (see image reproduced from The Artist, Vol 33, 1902) the footed bowls did not always have lids, especially those with stones to the handles.

For a near identical example on display at The Art Institute of Chicago see this link.

The condition is excellent, with just a slight rubbing to a poorly struck GofH Ltd mark. There is no glass liner though I am happy to have one made on request.  The two green stones are well, but not perfectly, matched.
