Small Georgian Oak Dresser Base.

A charming 18th century, Georgian, oak dresser base of unusually small proportions. Having well figured top, over three frieze drawers with replacement brass handles to elegant, shaped frieze. Raised on square chamfered supports with original potboard shelf below.

As the name suggests the original purpose of a potboard shelf was to store all manner of pots and pans. These pots and pans were often still wet, very heavy, or possibly still hot when placed back onto the storage shelf and this is the reason that we regularly find potboard shelves replaced on antique dresser bases. The potboard shelf on this example is however original.

Overall the dresser base is an extremely sweet size, perfect for a wide ranging variety of spaces around the home, due to its narrow proportions amongst other things. It is also of course incredibly elegant and retains a quite beuatiful mellow colour and patina which is a consequence of years and years of hard graft and use, combined with love and care.

There is very little damage to speka of, certainly nothing visually unappealing, or which causes a structural problem and although the brass handles are replacements they look more than acceptable and actually sit very nicely on the piece indeed. They have clearly been in situ for a very long time indeed.

As with all items which we offer for sale this dresser base has been inspected and attended to in our workshops by our trained antique furniture restorers, where it has recieved a natural wax polish to ensure it is ready for immediate placement within the home environment.
