An Exceptional William and Mary Period Single Drawer Side Table.
With Generous Overhanging Top and Joined "Bobbin" Turned Base.
Right Nutty Coloured Cedar and Fruitwood.
English, circa 1680.
Dimensions
67.28cms high x 63.48cms wide x 46.97cms deepCondition report
Of delightful scale and proportions this unusually diminutive side table has a generous overhang to the moulded top, which is raised on a joined frame with finely turned legs and stretchers. The block and baluster turned legs are joined by high central front and rear stretchers, together with low level "H" stretchers, all are finely turned with ball and disc details. Fashioned from rich nutty coloured fruitwood and cedar the top bears and engaging stain in the form of a pair of Georgian candle snuffers, along with various other scars and blemishes, commensurate with its age and function. The period style tear drop handles are probably later replacements in keeping with the original and the table retains its original feet. There is evidence of some shrinkage to the top and incidental scars and bruises to the frame, but generally this fine little William and Mary period table is in genuine authentic country house condition and blessed with a beautiful patination.Stock number
