Sheraton harewood and marquetry pembroke table
An elegant George III, Sheraton period harewood veneered and marquetry inlaid pembroke table; the butterfly shaped top crossbanded in tulipwood and inlayed to the centre with a Neo-classical pattera and with acanthus and harebell sprays to the corners of the top; the frieze, with a drawer to one end, is inlaid with an anthemion to the centre and with honeysuckle sprays to the corners; raised on slender, square tapering legs which are inlaid with oval paterae to the top of the leg with trailing harebells below and terminate in unusual brass cap castors.
Circa: 1780.
This Georgian pembroke table is a beautiful example of the finest Sheraton furniture. The sophisticated Neo-classical marquetry reflects the influence of Robert Adam and William Chambers on fashionable Georgian furniture. The harewood, sycamore which has been stained dark green, has a lovely striped figuring and retains a great colour and patination.
