Georgian mahogany open armchairs.
An elegant pair of Georgian carved mahogany open armchairs; the shaped top rail above a pierced fan splat and a seat upholstered in blue damask; the outscrolling arms carved with acanthus and raised on well drawn cabriole legs which are acanthus carved to the knee and terminate in French scroll toes.
These comfortable armchairs show the influence of Kentian designs in the fan splat melded with the growing taste for Rococo furniture in the free flowing carving to the arms and legs. Each armchair is stamped with the journeyman cabinet-maker's initials RH.
Circa 1750.
