Set of Six China Trade Gouache Still Life of Fruit & Flowers on Pith Paper.

Signed Sunqua.

Mid-19th Century.

The fine China Trade pith paper painting in gouache depict different fruit and flower compositions.  The painting is extremely well done and well executed by Sunqua.  Each painting has a signature with his name painted on a leaf. The pith paper paintings mounted with an ivory silk matte with a green line surrounding the painting within a gilt frame.  

All glass is Tru Vue conservation glass.

Dimensions:  Frame: 10 3/4 inches x 14 3/4 inches x 3/4 inches; Sight 7 1/2 inches high  x 11 inches wide.

He was one of the best known Chinese artists in the 19th-century producing pictures for the European market. Residing in China Street in the city of Canton (Guangzhou),[1] Sunqua worked and established studios in Canton and Macao, and was known for his large oil pictures of the shipping and trade into these ports. His studio also concentrated on flower and trade albums, most of which are in full bodycolor painted on pith paper.
