A SET OF SEVEN GRAND TOUR MICRO-MOSAIC BUTTONS

Circa 1850. 

 

The buttons in three sizes, all with stud fastenings to the reverse, one stud lacking to one of the larger buttons, the faces with hardstone borders and finely worked micro-mosaic roundels depicting celebrated architectural ruins of Ancient Rome.

The two larger roundels showing the Colosseum and the Temple of Hercules Victor, the two medium sized roundels of the Pantheon and the Temple of Vespasian, the three smaller roundels with the Temple of Portunus, the Arch of Septimus Severus and the Temple of Augustus.
