A fine set of four Antique Silver George III Second Course Dishes made by John Houle of London in 1817 - one made in 1812. These super quality dishes all bear the family crest of Samuel Crawley (1790-52) of Stockwood Park Bedfordshire and Ragnall Hall Nottinghamshire. He was married in 1817 so these were almost certainly a wedding present. The dishes have very bold gadroon and shell decoration and are nicely shaped and are in excellent condition. These substantial dishes would be wonderful for a variety of purposes and would be lovely to use as part of a buffet. All the dishes are discreetly numbered 1-4 on one end and on the other end they are notched (for example four dots in a line are indicative of the number 4). The maker John Houle was apprenticed to The Royal Goldsmith Paul Storr in 1798 and these dishes are worthy of the master himself.
