Sailor's Woolwork
Sailor's Woolwork or Woolie Picture of Two Royal Navy Ships under way. The Ships including a First Rate Battleship
1870
Textile
The sailor's woolwork or woolie as they are known depicts a starboard view of two ships of the Red Fleet - a First Rate battleship under sail and a smaller steamship passing along with land in the background.
The colouring of the wool is good with an overall light blue in the sky. The land is depicted in green on the grassy hills and brown for the fields.
Both ships fly the Red Ensign and each displays various signaling flags from the mainmast.
