Late 19th Century Boxwood Pill Silverer.
A late Victorian boxwood apothecary's pill silverer, having a screw top with a protruding band, to secure the removable lid. The whole, raised on a concave stem and stepped rounded foot, has a pleasing colour and patination.
These pill silverers were used by apothecaries, having made their pills, they would be moisturised with mucilage of acacia and then put in these containers with a gold, silver leaf or colouring, gently rolling the pills within, which would coat them ready for storage in a bottle or jar.
English Circa 1880.
