An early 19th century two piece sycamore mortar grater of traditional form, having a pestle with a mushroom handle, that has a small metal grinding plate. Both the pestle and base have the remains of red painted decoration, well worn through years of use. The base has shallow chip carved decoration. The whole has an excellent natural colour and patination.
