An interesting carved mahogany knitting sheath in the form of a fish that are associated with the North East, possibly from the village of Stanhope, West Durham. The carved scales are on one side only with raised fins and a fork tail, and it has an open mouth to receive the knitting needle. The whole has a pale colour and retains a patination.
