An exceptional Charles II drinking ladle, probably used in conjunction with a small wassail bowl, for drinking as one would using a dipper cup. The bowl, with four double incised lines, is a scolloped silver mounted coquilla nut, with a most unusual feature in having a flat base, so that the ladle remains in a stable position on the table. The slender tapered fruitwood handle is finely turned, ending in a double knop and finial. The whole has a lovely colour, condition and patination, and is a serious collector's item.
