A good triangular section mahogany 18th century stay busk, no doubt carved by a seaman as a love token. The top with a hope and anchor motif, is above the initials K, a plus sign and M, with a heart below. The date 1776 is within a chip carved surround with further roundels, diamonds, leaf motifs and chip carving covering the entire front of the busk, with a plain back. The whole has a pleasing rich colour and patination.
English Circa 1776
