Roman School, 18th Century: Marble Bust of 'La Zingara'.
Dating from the late 18th/ early 19th Century, this version of the Zingara is based on the full-length Ancient Greek statue La Zingara which was originally in the collection of the Villa Borghese in Rome. It was purchased by Napoleon with the bulk of the Borghese antiquities, was transferred to the Louvre and is now on deposit in the Versailles Museum. Examples in England can be found at Stourhead, the Lady Lever Art Gallery and the V & A Museum. Scheemakers and Cheere also made plaster casts.
