Rocaille Based Crane Candlesticks.
A pair of bronze cranes standing on rocky bases and holding aloft foliate candles sockets; a bronze crown around their necks.
The cast bronze cranes exhibit sharp after-work to the feathers; the rocaille bases an attractive variation at the base of this model.
English circa 1840.
Cranes have long been a symbol of vigilance and will often appear in heraldry with one foot holding a stone. They are emblems of immortality and longevity, vigilance, contemplation, prudence, piety, meditation, and chastity.
17 inches high x 5 in diameter base.
