A Renaissance etched steel and copper gilt strongbox.

Augsburg or Nuremberg, early 17th century.

Measures 15.5 x 9.5 x 9.5cm.

The body of the casket is etched with scrolls and swags framing Mermen soldiers and two each end, a winged Mermaid.

The caskets lid is set with an engraved gilded copper mount, which is very much in the manner of miniature caskets made in the workshops of Michel and Conrad Mann during the first third of the 17th century.

Retains its original key and the locking mechanism is in full working order.
