Regency Gilt Overmantle Mirror.

A Very Attractive Regency Period, 19th Century, Giltwood And Gesso Overmantle Mirror, Having Typical Roman Scene To Top Panel, Over Triple Split Old Bevelled Mirror Plates, Flanked By Elegant Half Turned Reeded Columns, Headed By Attractive Foliate Carved Capitals.

A good example of one of the most popular designs for antique overmantel mirrors, this has a roman scene to the top panel which incorporates Apollo on his chariot, pulled by lions, with soldiers behind, winged heralds above and maidens ahead.. This depiction was relatively common throughout the 19th century, however not often was it executed with the rich, detailed deep carving which this particular mirror boasts.

Overall the condition is good, with just a few old scuffs, scrapes and old blemishes to the gilding as would be expected. These have of course all now blended into the surface and it is very much in retail condition. The mirror plates themselves are old and almost certainly original, although this cannot be guaranteed.

Suitable for a wide variety of spaces around the home, not just above a mantelpiece as the description suggests, we know that any future owner will be absolutely delighted with their purchase, as it will add great elegance and function to absolutely any room of, of any property.
