A fine and rare silver gilt five tooth fish slice made in 1800 by William Eley and William Fearn of London( Handle same year by the specialist maker Moses Brent). These rare slices only really made between 1800 and 1830 have been subject to a lot of arguments over the years (are they melon slices ,some sort of cheese server)but the consensus and my view as well is that they are for fish. The fact that this is also gilded would affirm this view to prevent staining from any vinegars and oils in use.It is in excellent condition and the earliest one I have seen.
