Of circular bombé form, with a silver mount, the cover depicting the judgement of Paris, the interior of the cover with an erotic scene against a yellow ground, the exterior of the base decorated with four vignettes of European harbor scenes painted in the Meissen style, the base with a spray of pomegranates. 

The judgement of Paris is a story from Greek mythology and was a contest between Aphrodite, Hera and Athena - the three most beautiful goddesses of Olympos. The contest was judged by Paris of Troy, the Shepherd Prince. He chose Aphrodite swayed by her promise to bestow upon him Helena, the most beautiful woman for his wife. The subsequent abduction of Helena lead directly to the Trojan war and the fall of the city.





Condition report

Some shrinkage to the enamel, manufacturing faults evident to the interior lid, minor surface scratches, otherwise in good condition.
