A pair of early 19th century Regency mahogany Bergère chairs.
The reeded frames have been caned and reupholstered with a modern coloured fabric with padded arms.
The arms are supported on tapered and ring-turned baluster supports above rectangular capitals that have been raised on inverted tapered and ring-turned front legs that terminate on the original bronze capped castors.
The front seat rail is reeded and flanks the rectangular reeded capitals with the Bergère chair rear legs outstretched and raised on their original brass capped castors.
The chairs are well drawn and elegant in scale and, unlike some forms of the box Bergère chairs, these are a class above the standard box Bergère. The scale and proportions are fine and indicate a top London maker.
