Pair of Late 17th Century Lignum Vitae Candlesticks.
BATAVIA OR GOA, CIRCA 1680.
With a turned baluster and disc stem, on raised moulded bases. Minor variations.
Candlesticks of this form were modelled after designs produced in the Netherlands in the second half of the 17th century, e.g. BK-NM-2401, Rijksmuseum. Batavia was a Dutch East India Company port, now known as Jakarta.
