A Pair of Green Breccia and Carrara Marble Pedestals.
Each has a square top with stepped pediment of fine white Carrara marble. The column of unusual green breccia marble stands atop a rectangular Carrara marble foot. An interesting detail, showing the skill of the marble cutter, is that the tops of the pedestals are square but that are cut in such a way that they taper to a rectangular foot.
The green breccia marble has a pale yellow ground containing pyrite crystals. The veining is indicative of pressure during formation of the marble, which is quarried at the foot of the Col de Marie-Blanque mountain pass in the western Pyrenees.
Probably French, Circa 1830.
